Situation
Situated in the heart of the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, the City of Whitehorse is home to remnant bushlands, rich in biodiversity enjoyed by the local residents and native fauna alike. Envirotechniques has partnered with the City of Whitehorse for over 25 years to manage the land through the restoration and preservation of the pre-existing native bushland that has been protected throughout the city's development.

The Brief
The City of Whitehorse has engaged us to improve and maintain 10+ sites throughout the city to create and maintain resilient, high-quality bushlands. Integrating a converted tip face into a remnant bushland is being achieved through plantings, hand weeding, brush cutting and targeted chemical weed management. We have been entrusted with sites such as Antonio Park, which is recognised as one of the most diverse remnant bushlands in Victoria. The team utilise their plant identification and land management skills to ensure the ecosystems remain strong and healthy for generations to come.
Objectives
- Increase ground cover and species diversity throughout bushlands.
- Utilise specific land management techniques based on site quality.
- Provide long term weed management solutions with the goal of increasing site quality.
- Work alongside friends groups, and residents.
- Implement high standards of plant identification skills to ensure precision and accuracy.

Outcome
For the past 25 years, we have seen the impressive transformation of degraded remnant bushland areas into areas with the most diverse species, including some of Victoria's most threatened flora. Through hard work and dedication, ecosystem health has steadily improved to the point where wildlife and humans can enjoy the haven of the bushlands thriving in the Whitehorse City Council area.
